SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) -- Magnets are going green in Central Texas. Noveon Magnetics celebrated its grand opening this summer, after opening its doors in 2020. The company manufactures permanent magnets by reusing old ones."We can reprocess old magnets from applications that reached the end of their lives," said Catalina Tudor, co-founder and Chief Information Officer with Noveon.Traditionally, rare earth metals needed to produce magnets are mined. Not only does this require digging for a non-renewable resource, but it also produces CO2 emissions in the transportation of those materials. According to the company, using fewer mined rare earth metals is better for the environment. How do you reuse old magnets?Noveon collects old magnets that have lost their magnetic charge, then pulverizes them. After the magnets are broken down enough, they are melted, then placed in a mold where they form a big block. ‘World’s largest lettuce greenhouse’ opens in Temple, Texas That block is slic...

Noah Feldman: Supreme Court’s conservative revolution comes into sharper focus

Published Fri, 07 Feb 2025 22:30:52 GMT

The Supreme Court’s conservative judicial revolution is taking on a recognizable, three-pronged structure. On big-ticket, hot button issues, like abortion and affirmative action, the court blows precedent out of the water and replaces it with a ruling that the conservative legal movement has been demanding for half a century. On major Democratic initiatives, like climate policy and President Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness program, the court blocks executive action using Chief Justice John Roberts’s brainchild, the major questions doctrine. In the third category, the revolution takes a breather as each of President Donald Trump’s three appointees gets the chance to emphasize a specific legal issue he or she cares about. Roberts and the court’s three liberals provide the rest of the votes. The result is a reasonable ruling that avoids major doctrinal upheaval – and doesn’t undermine the rest of the revolution.Examples of this third category...

98.3 TRY Social Dilemma: Should I Have To Disable My Ring Doorbell Camera?

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Today's 98.3 TRY Social Dilemma came from Brian and it's about his Ring doorbell. Here's his email: Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! Hi Jaime. Talk about a dilemma. I'm having a big problem. My neighbor wants me to disable my ring doorbell camera. Can you believe it? He’s known that I’ve had it for a year, but now his teenage daughter has decided she wants to spend a portion of each day sunbathing in the yard…the exact part of the yard that my doorbell cam points to. It’s not like I can move it, right? Anyway, when I refused, the guy accused me of being some sort of predator…especially when I had the gall to suggest that she sunbathes in the backyard of their house…or someplace else? He’s threatening to press the issue with the local authorities. Can he really do something like that to force me to remove my security camera? Don't you think he's being unreasonable? Thanks for the help. BrianWell, this...
