Opinion: Three Colorado abortion bills are likely unconstitutional

Published Wed, 12 Feb 2025 21:08:24 GMT

Our right to make our own health care choices will be seriously compromised if Senate Bills 188, 189, and 190 are signed into law. While all three bills will eventually be struck down as unconstitutional under the Colorado and US constitutions, they will, in the meanwhile, deny our right to choose.Senate Bill 189 will force employers to purchase health insurance policies that cover abortion up to birth without copays in violation of the Colorado Constitution which states no public funds may be used directly or indirectly for abortion unless to save the life of the mother with every reasonable effort made to preserve her life and the life of her child. Under SB 189, public funds will be used directly to enforce the abortion mandate and indirectly to force taxpayers to subsidize abortion through their insurance premiums. The bill does not protect employees who consider themselves pro-choice but do not want to pay for abortion or employees who are pro-life. The bill has a narrow excepti...

DU’s gymnasts deserve a place in the sports pagesA high-caliber NCAA event was held at Magness Arena on Sunday, April 2. Yet, sadly, there is no mention of it in The Denver Post. The now-No. 8 ranked Denver Pioneers gymnastics team upset a loaded field in front of a nearly sold-out crowd to win the meet and qualify for Nationals, the elite 8 of college gymnastics. To give an example of the caliber of gymnastics, Olympic champion Jade Carey was there competing all around for Oregon State. It was a beautiful moment and a magical night for the Pioneers. The profile of college gymnastics has never been higher, and the Pioneers have a lot to cheer for. #MarchGladnessVanessa Zink, Colorado Springs50% of athletes locked out of professional opportunity in DenverI’ve supported men in sports in Denver for years, and millions of our tax dollars have gone to stadiums where our men shine. Uzbekistan: the State Guarantees Developing a Sustainable Education System

Published Wed, 12 Feb 2025 21:08:24 GMT

It is an undeniable fact that in the 21st century the success in development can only be achieved by those countries that have chosen to prioritize investment in human capital, since the accumulated knowledge and information have now become strategic resources - writes Ranokhon Tursunova.A state system of sustainable education, which consists of pre-school, general secondary and primary vocational education, higher and postgraduate education, professional development and retraining, is well-developed in Uzbekistan. However, it is necessary to point out the peculiarity of the model proposed by our state, which implies a permanent learning process, in which a person has the opportunity to gain knowledge for a long time and further improve it.As for pre-school education, the system has not been regulated from a constitutional-legal point of view so far. It is quite relevant and timely to introduce a new edition of the Constitution with regulations that the state creates conditions for ...

The 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome will provide the perfect opportunity for professional golf to unite

Published Wed, 12 Feb 2025 21:08:24 GMT

The eyes of the golfing world might not be focused on Rome just yet, but with just six months to go before the 2023 Ryder Cup begins, that will soon change. As of now, however, most of the focus is understandably on the first major of the year set to be held at Augusta National in Georgia. The Masters takes centre stage In particular, with Rory Mcllroy chasing the career Grand Slam, the narrative in the professional game is heavily centred on what might happen on the hallowed fairways of the Masters when he tees off. Tellingly, this sense of expectation reached new heights in the lead-up to the event after the latest golf odds showed the Northern Irishman to be the outright favourite to win his first green jacket and in doing so, make history. Indeed, if you bet on US Masters outright markets, you will find Mcllory at odds of just 13/2 to win the tournament. Accomplishing this feat would mean that Mcllroy becomes only the seventh man in history to win the career Grand...

Corteo Leaps into City of Angels

Published Wed, 12 Feb 2025 21:08:24 GMT

Corteo (or cortege in Italian) references a procession, and in the case of the new Cirque de Soleil show at the Microsoft Theater at L.A. Live, the procession is eye-popping. Though the narrative of this acrobatic spectacle is a bit muddled, it’s visually stunning nonetheless. It depicts the funeral of a character called Mauro The Dream Clown, visually with little to no dialog. As Mauro’s circus family pays their respects, we see his spirit observing the scene amongst floating angels and lively dream sequences featuring those he performed with and loved. Jugglers, jesters, and of course lots of acrobats in classic Cirque fashion, encompass the show with highlights including performers dangling in midair dance via giant chandeliers and Mauro’s miniature clown cohorts enjoying the revelry, including a massive balloon ride over the audience.Corteo runs now through April 30 at Microsoft Theater, 777 Chick Hearn Ct., Downtown L.A.  Tickets and info at microsofttheater.c...
