Red Sox top Guardians 7-1 behind Wong, Verdugo home runs BOSTON (AP) — Connor Wong hit a two-run homer, Jason Verdugo singled home a pair of runs and added a late solo homer and the Red Sox beat the Cleveland Guardians 7-1 on a cold and rainy Sunday at Fenway Park.Chris Sale (2-2) struck out five, holding the Guardians to three hits over 6 1/3 innings. Boston took two of three from Cleveland in the three-game series and climbed one game above .500 at 15-14.“Today was a good day, but it takes the whole squad to get there,” Sale said. Christian Arroyo added a two-run double during a three-run seventh inning that sealed it for the Red Sox, who overcame a strong start by rookie Logan Allen (1-1) and piled on late runs against Cleveland relievers.Amed Rosario drove in Cleveland’s only run with a single in the sixth inning, one of just four hits for the Guardians. Widening manhunt for Texas gunman slowed by 'zero leads' CLEVELAND, Texas (AP) — A widening manhunt for a Texas gunman who killed five neighbors continued turning up nothing Sunday as officers knocked on doors, the governor put up $50,000 in reward money and the FBI acknowledged they had “zero leads” after nearly two days of searching.“What we need from the public is any type of information, because right now we’re just we’re running into dead ends,” James Smith, the FBI's special agent in charge, said during an afternoon news conference. “I can tell you right now, we have zero leads.”The search for the suspect has grown in scale since the Friday shooting, with more than 200 police from multiple jurisdictions searching for Francisco Oropeza, many going door to door, looking for the 38-year-old suspect and asking for tips. Local officials and the FBI also chipped in reward money, bringing the total to $80,000 for any information about Oropeza's whereabouts. Oropeza is considered armed and dangerous after fleeing the area Friday night, like...

No. 3 House Republican defends party’s debt ceiling bill

No. 3 House Republican defends party’s debt ceiling bill (CNN) — House Majority Whip Tom Emmer said Sunday that President Joe Biden “doesn’t have to negotiate” over the debt ceiling, saying that “Republicans in the House, led by Kevin McCarthy, have passed the solution.”House Republicans last week narrowly passed their bill to raise the nation’s $31.4 trillion debt limit by an additional $1.5 trillion. But the measure faces nearly impossible odds of passing in the Democratic-led Senate. Emmer disagreed with that contention in an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash on “State of the Union.”“To say that it’s dead on arrival in the Senate, when you’ve got even Joe Manchin suggesting support for this type of approach, I think that’s not exactly accurate,” the Minnesota Republican said. “If you don’t like something in it, if you have ideas of your own, our speaker is more than willing, I’m sure, to listen to those.”The House GOP measure ...

Knicks can’t take advantage of Jimmy Butler’s injury in Game 1 loss There was the game lying on the court. Maybe the series. Jimmy Butler, the one player without a fathomable replacement, writhing in pain. Grabbing his foot.At that moment, Erik Spoelstra was caught on camera uttering what the Miami Heat supporters, however many few stuck around after LeBron James left, were all thinking.“F—,” the coach mouthed. There were about five minutes remaining Sunday when Butler sprained his ankle, and surely the Heat were in trouble with a slim lead.Except the opposite happened. The Knicks became the shell-shocked side. At home and facing an inferior roster, they folded like a blueberry crepe in a 108-101 Game 1 defeat.“Just wasn’t making shots,” Mitchell Robinson said.Butler didn’t sub out after turning his ankle while driving to the hoop on defender Josh Hart. He emerged from the timeout clearly under physical distress, hobbling around the court. But the Knicks never took advantage. Instead, they were outscored, 11-3...
