Surveillance video captured smash-and-grab thieves hitting two Silver Lake businesses in the early morning hours Sunday, who ended up leaving more of a mess than getting away with any valuables.  The incident happened at around 3 a.m. in the 3800 block of Sunset Boulevard.  Their likely target was Undefeated, a high-end sneaker store. However, that store has been broken into three times before and now has metal gates protecting the shop in both the front and the back.  “They just happened to break into the wrong door, just a maintenance door,” Leo Valsquez, who works at Undefeated, told KTLA. “A year ago, they broke in and sledgehammered through it, and this time, they were out of luck.”  The supervisor at neighboring Oakberry Açai Bowl, Maria Novaes, also believes the burglars thought they were breaking into the back of the shoe store, but an hour after they left, the same crew returned and broke into her shop.  “It’s sad because we work hard every day and it ju...

Editorial: GOP walks the impeachment tightrope

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 08:19:57 GMT

The evidence implicating President Joe Biden in influence peddling keeps piling up. There’s less evidence that impeachment proceedings will be an electoral boon for the GOP.House Speaker Kevin McCarthy recently opened an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. He wants House committees to examine the “culture of corruption” that swirls around the Biden family. That includes the business affairs of Hunter Biden, the president’s son, and potential connections to President Biden himself. That could include bribery charges.Republicans are also likely to scrutinize whether the Biden administration gave Hunter Biden special treatment. Officials offered and then retracted a plea agreement for Hunter Biden that would have sent him to a diversion program for a gun charge and given him broad immunity in other matters. After the public learned the details, a judge pressed prosecutors and the deal fell apart. The first response from Democrats and many in the media was to assert that there’...

McCaughey: Biden lays booby trap for GOP president

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 08:19:57 GMT

The Biden administration is setting a booby trap in case a Republican wins the presidency in 2024.The White House just unveiled a proposed rule that would make it even harder than in the past for an incoming Republican president to wrestle control of the left-leaning federal bureaucracy and actually implement the conservative policies promised to voters.Of the 2.2 million federal civil workers, only 4,000 are presidential appointees. The rest stay in their jobs, from one administration to the next, protected by rules that make it nearly impossible to discipline or replace them. They overwhelmingly favor the Left. A staggering 95% of unionized federal employees who donate to political candidates give to Democrats, according to Open Secrets. Only a tiny 5% support Republicans. Some federal workers in high positions slow-walk or even derail a Republican president’s agenda — and get away with it.Why bother to vote if the left-leaning deep state stays in charge no matter who wi...

Dear Abby: Possible BF just wanted a hookup

Dear Abby: I am 36, still single and depressed about it. I recently met someone who seemed perfect. He has his own place with laundry facilities, and his job is the kind where he doesn’t have a bunch of other people in his life. So when he asked me over, I went.I thought because our friends and family were similar, his values would be, too. I expected he would want to get to know me and have a conversation, but he went right for kissing. I’m so disappointed. Then he told me he doesn’t want a relationship! Why did he do that? Why do they want to kiss but then not have a relationship? Does he prefer to sit home each night alone and enjoy someone only on Saturdays? What IS that?I want someone all the time in my life, like a married couple has. My parents are still together. They had a few problems along the way, but they are still together. Why are the men I meet not marriage material? — On Wrong Path in PennsylvaniaDear Wrong Path: When searching for a relation...
