'Like a bomb going off': Explosion at Kansas home caught on camera WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) -- One person died after a house exploded in Wichita, Kansas, on Sunday. The explosion sent flaming debris flying into neighbors' yards. Sedgwick County dispatchers said calls reporting an explosion came in around 5:30 p.m. Once fire crews arrived at the home, they started trying to put out the flames. Fireworks started to go off as firefighters fought the initial blaze, said Wichita Fire Department Battalion Chief Jose Ocadiz.Neighbor Craig Hubbard described hearing a series of explosions. He caught one of the blasts on video. "I just heard a huge explosion, like a bomb going off, and it rattled like the windows," he said. "The third explosion happened as I was standing there, and debris landed everywhere." 'Justice delayed': Hays County has backlog of 5,000+ unfiled criminal cases HAYS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — Newly elected Hays County District Attorney Kelly Higgins said they are dealing with a backlog of more than 5,000 unfiled criminal cases. He said some of those cases date back to the second half of 2021."From, you know, murderers, to smoking a joint, right, I mean, the whole range," Higgins said. How did we get here?Higgins said the cases were so backed up because of the office's intake process from previous administrations. "There's either a warrant or a field arrest without a warrant made, and then a police officer will write a report about that and forward that report to our office. And that's our first look at any case," he said. Higgins said intake coordinators will then look at the case, create a file and start filling it with information a lawyer might want to determine what to do with that case. However, he said they were spending too much time processing information in a way that was "duplicative, redundant and unhelpful." RELATED COVERAGE: 83...

Wild winger Mason Shaw is nominee for Masterton Trophy Mason Shaw knew as soon as it happened. He hit a rut in the ice last weekend in Las Vegas and immediately crumbled. Nathan MacKinnon’s best season? Even before 100 points, Avalanche star’s friend Sidney Crosby thought it’s “pretty close to the best I’ve seen him play.” LOS ANGELES — Mikko Rantanen contemplated the prompt. He didn’t have a search engine or a stat sheet in front of him to consult. Every year, you kind of think, ‘Is this his best year?’ again.”MacKinnon is gearing up for his seventh playoff run with the Avalanche, but this time he has a regular-season monkey off his back. The franchise center reached 100 points for the first time in his 10-year career Tuesday in San Jose.“I’m just happy that I got it ou...
