ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A new poll from Siena College Research Institute (SCRI) shows that a majority of New Yorkers are concerned that they may be a victim of a crime. According to the latest report, 61% of New Yorkers are either very or somewhat concerned about being a victim. The report also says that 51% of residents have been concerned for themselves or their family's safety when out in public. Siena College also says that 9% of New Yorkers have been physically assaulted while another nine percent have been the victim of a burglary.In terms of residents preparing to protect themselves from possible crime, the report says that 40% of New Yorkers have spent $100 or more on services that make them feel safe—12% have spent over $500, a third bought security devices, one out of every six New Yorkers took self-defense classes, and 12% bought a firearm for defense. MADISON COUNTY, Ill. - An Edwardsville, Illinois, man was arrested and charged earlier this week for causing a fatal crash on Interstate 55 while under the influence.According to the Illinois State Police, the crash occurred just after 1:40 a.m. on July 8, on southbound I-55 at milepost 15. Investigators learned a Chevy Malibu struck the rear of a Jeep Compass, which caused the Jeep to overturn. Both the driver and front seat passenger in the Jeep were ejected and killed. Monty is considered an iconic local figure in Montgomery County, nearly an hour west of St. Louis. A coalition of news organizations has asked a judge to hold Denver’s school board in contempt for failing to meet the court’s deadline to release its recording of a closed-door meeting that members held in March following the shooting inside East High School. Denver District Court Judge Andrew Luxen last month gave the Board of Education until noon Tuesday to release the recording or request a stay from the Colorado Court of Appeals. Single-Car Accident on Alta Murrieta Elementary School Left Three FatalitiesMURRIETA, CA (July 12, 2023) – Saturday evening, a solo-vehicle accident on Whitewood Road left three people dead and one person injured.Police responded to the fatal crash around 11:10 p.m. at the parking lot of Alta Murrieta Elementary School at 3900 Whitewood Road.Upon arrival, officers discovered a white four-door Tesla on fire with a lone male occupant outside suffering from serious injuries.Eventually, paramedics rushed the man to a local hospital for immediate medical treatment. His condition remains unknown.In addition, responding units from Murrieta Fire Department found three victims inside the vehicle after they extinguished the flames.
