Boonchant holes out for eagle on her second shot of the round, shares the lead in the Dana Open

Published Thu, 13 Feb 2025 07:34:41 GMT

Jaravee Boonchant holed out from 128 yards for eagle on her second shot of the round and had a 7-under 64 on Thursday for a share of the first-round lead with Linn Grant in the LPGA Tour’s Dana Open.“I was just like on the first cut and I was like, `OK, this shot, just anywhere on the green,’” Boonchant said about the eagle on No. 10. “… and the ball just happened to hit one bounce and hop in the hole.”Boonchant also had seven birdies and two bogeys at Highland Meadows. The 24-year-old Thai player is winless on the LPGA Tour after helping Duke take the 2019 NCAA title. She missed the cut last week in the U.S. Women’s Open at Pebble Beach.“My irons were really doing the work today and just put me in a position that I could have a chance to make a birdie,” Boonchant said. “My putter was rolling really well, too, so that really helped.”Grant had a bogey-free round, opening with six straight pars on the back nine. Also winless on the tour, the 24-year-old Swede birdied Nos. 16-18 ...

Repeat offender bear euthanized in Boulder

Published Thu, 13 Feb 2025 07:34:41 GMT

DENVER (KDVR) -- A bear that was captured, tagged and released back into the wilderness returned on multiple occasions and showed aggression at one point, forcing Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers to euthanize the animal. CPW said the subadult black bear was first found in June when it attempted to get into trash looking for food in south Boulder. The bear was ear-tagged and released into the wild away from the human population, a CPW release said. The bear was spotted a few weeks later doing the same thing on 16th Street. Boulder Animal Protection officers pepper sprayed the bear repeatedly to no avail. In another instance, CPW officers deployed two Taser hits but that didn't phase the bear, and it charged aggressively at wildlife officers. The release said a CPW officer shot the charging bear with a rubber bullet to stop its advance but it ran away. Bear forces closures on CU Boulder campus Each instance occurred in the middle of the day, which was alarming to CPW since it is...

WHO declares widely used sweetener aspartame a possible cancer cause, but intake guidelines stay the same

Published Thu, 13 Feb 2025 07:34:41 GMT

(CNN) — For the first time, a semi-independent committee for the World Health Organization said Thursday that it’s determined that aspartame, a popular artificial sweetener found in thousands of products like diet sodas and sugar-free gum, should be put categorized as “possibly carcinogenic to humans.”But as alarming as the designation might sound, this label does not mean your diet soda causes cancer. The designation means that some of the research reviewed by WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) shows that there may be a possible link between aspartame and liver cancer, but that science is by no means conclusive, like it is for a substance like asbestos or tobacco.Aspartame is considered one of the most studied food additives in existence. Multiple regulatory bodies like the US Food and Drug Administration have repeatedly said that aspartame is safe for human consumption if used within certain guidelines. In fact, a separate WHO com...
