Croptober 2023 in Full Swing

Published Fri, 01 Nov 2024 06:37:41 GMT

Croptober 2023 in Full Swing The harvest is not the same beast it once was.Much of the billions of dollars that would flow into the small towns in Northern California every year has been lost in the years since legalization passed. Permit stacking here at home, Oklahoma flooding the East Coast market, and a poor regulatory rollout contributed a lot to the pain in both the underground and legal markets. But there is still hope to be found in harvest season because of what it meant to the survivors. For those who have made it this far through the storm, the harvest is when the efforts of a year’s labor come to fruition. Many of them represent the last grasp of outdoor OGs holding on for the culture, as so much of California’s outdoor and mixed-light cannabis production has moved to giant facilities. But not everywhere. People like Dashiell and Mariam of Barrett Farms, named for their dog, are more than willing to show you the heat coming out of small craft cannabis farms. The pair told us the season started off w...

Lexi Thompson holds her own on PGA Tour in Las Vegas. Beau Hossler sets the pace LAS VEGAS (AP) — Lexi Thompson kept a rough round from getting worse and wound up holding her own Thursday in the Shriners Children’s Open until darkness kept her from finishing.Beau Hossler set the pace by matching his career low on the PGA Tour with a 9-under 62, which included a tee shot that found the water left of the par-3 17th at the TPC Summerlin.Thompson was the main attraction of this FedEx Cup Fall event, the seventh woman to play a PGA Tour event and the first in five years. She was 1-over par for her round through 16 holes and chose to mark her ball — a 20-foot par putt on the 17th — and return to finish the first round in the morning. Still in play was a chance to make the cut, though it was hard work to keep her score around par.“I played decent,” Thompson said. “I had one bad hole and a few iffy shots. But it’s golf; it was kind of expected.”Thompson took advantage on two of the par 5s for birdie, and she got a bonus with a birdie putt from inside 25 feet on the...

Broncos lose 16th straight game to Chiefs KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes threw for 306 yards and a touchdown, Harrison Butker kicked four field goals, and the Kansas City Chiefs held off the Denver Broncos 19-8 on Thursday night for their 16th straight win over their longtime AFC West rivals.Travis Kelce had nine catches for 124 yards for Kansas City with Taylor Swift again cheering him on from an Arrowhead Stadium suite. But the Chiefs (5-1) leaned more heavily on their defense to shut down erratic Russell Wilson and the Broncos (1-5). Remembering Broncos superfan and ‘Mile High Monster’ Kerry Green Wilson was held to 95 yards passing with a touchdown and a pair of interceptions, and woebegone Denver finished with just 197 yards of total offense.Still, the Chiefs' inability to turn red-zone trips into touchdowns nearly cost them.Butker's first three field goals helped them to a 16-0 lead, but Wilson's touchdown pass to Courtland Sutton — ruled incomplete but overturned upon review — with about six minutes remain...

Israel orders evacuation of 1.1M people from northern Gaza: UN

Israel orders evacuation of 1.1M people from northern Gaza: UN JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel’s military on Friday directed the evacuation of northern Gaza, a region that is home to 1.1 people — about half of the territory's population — within 24 hours, a U.N. spokesman said. This could signal an impending ground offensive, though the Israeli military has not yet confirmed such an appeal. On Thursday it said that while it was preparing, a decision has not yet been made. FOX31 Newsletters: Sign up to get breaking news sent to your inbox The order, delivered to the U.N., comes as Israel presses an offensive against Hamas militants. U.N. spokesman Stéphane Dujarric called the order “impossible” without “devastating humanitarian consequences.”Earlier, the Israeli military pulverized the Gaza Strip with airstrikes, prepared for a possible ground invasion and said its complete siege of the territory — which has left Palestinians desperate for food, fuel and medicine — would remain in place until Hamas militants free some 150 hostages taken during a grisl...

Now is the time to water trees, horticulturalist says

Now is the time to water trees, horticulturalist says AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — Trees. We love them, we buy them, we plant them. And someday, we hope they love us back with a little shade. But not if they die before their time, which is why you have a little chore to do this weekend: Water your trees. View the latest Weather Alerts in Denver and across Colorado on FOX31 "We think that in winter, trees are asleep — they drop their leaves, they don’t need any water. They all need a really good drink before all this happens," said Colette Haskell, a horticulturist at Nick’s Garden Center.Haskell said now is the time to give your trees a big drink of water before they go dormant."You can lay the hose there on a slow, medium drip, and then move it around every 10 minutes underneath the tree if you don’t have a deep root feeder," Haskell said. A big, satisfying quenching of your trees’ thirst is the best way to keep them around.Tree care: What not to do before a freezeBut there are also things you will want to avoid doing. Namely, Haskell said...
