They are part of an art installation that Queen’s has adopted for the second straight year in an effort to mark the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and gender diverse people on May 5.Last year Queen’s had red dresses hanging on campus closer to the date itself, but decided to do so earlier this year so that more students would be on campus and able to engage with and learn about the installation and the issue it represents. Kandice Baptiste, Associate Director at Queen’s Office of Indigenous Initiatives, said it was important to move the date up so students can take in the installation and its’ message, and it seems students are doing so.“We thought it was important this year to move it up into April so that students can also see the dresses,” Baptiste said.“We’ve f...

The Massachusetts Air National guardsman arrested at his mom’s home for allegedly leaking secret military information online is from a military family. Jack Teixeira, 21, graduated Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School in 2020. He then joined the Massachusetts Air National Guard where he was a part of the 102nd Intelligence Wing with the Air National Guard on Cape Cod. Though it is not clear what security clearance or access he had, the Air Force said he worked to make sure the service’s vast, global communications network operated properly. Teixeira’s step-father served for 35 years and was based out of Otis Air National Guard Base on Cape Cod. He retired in 2019, and it is unclear if he helped recruit Teixeira in 2020. Court documents explain the security clearance Teixeira had would have required him to sign a lifetime non-disclosure agreement, understanding that releasing protected information would result in criminal charges.Jason Ruta graduated with Teixeir...

In spite of this, she went out to her SUV and drove it right into the restaurant, crashing through a wall, and then forcing her vehicle another four feet inside the building until debris made it impossible to go further.FIRST THINGS FIRST: A man stole an electric scooter from a Target in Flagler County, Fla., but was arrested immediately, because he was trying to assemble it right in front of the building. Cops also found drug paraphernalia in his pockets.I THINK I’M THE COP AND YOU’RE NOT, SIR: A man tried to carjack an off-duty female police officer who was sitting in an unmarked vehicle on the main street of Newark, Del. Ira Winderman: Thinking big led to losses, but Heat likely will do it all again

Published Thu, 13 Feb 2025 20:02:55 GMT

After an uneven season and rocky play-in ride, beyond debate has been that the Miami Heat have pushed through with a roster that has been lacking, needing a Friday high-wire act against the Chicago Bulls to advance. To some, that is a condemnation of Pat Riley, Andy Elisburg, Adam Simon, Nick Arison and the front office. And yet, no less than Riley, Elisburg, Simon and Arison essentially came to that conclusion well before any outsiders. So to consider the Heat’s eventual end game at the conclusion of this postseason, first go back to the start, to last July, when the Heat had pieces to put into play, alternate means to distribute their payroll, the ability to delay on what became a four-year, $130 million extension to Tyler Herro.Because as distressing as it might seem, history could well repeat itself.Yes. Whales. Harpoons. Big Fish. Dream outlooks. Nightmare possibilities, this hardly a team that plays for a No. 8 seed. The primary reason the Heat avoided becoming hard capped l...

(NEXSTAR) — Traveling can be stressful — you have to plan the trip, catch the flight, and hope you don't find yourself in a bad bout of turbulence. Even after you arrive at your destination, you may face an unexpected, and unfortunate, obstacle: damaged or lost luggage. While frustrating, data shows it is a relatively rare event — of the roughly 115 million pieces of luggage put on a plane between November 2022 and January 2023, less than 1% was lost or damaged. Yet according to data for that same time period, some airlines mishandled luggage more than others. Luggage damaged, delayed, or lost while flying? You may be eligible for a reimbursement A bag is considered "mishandled" if it is "lost, damaged, delayed, and pilfered, as reported by or on behalf of the passenger" while in an "airline’s custody for its reportable domestic nonstop scheduled passenger flights."Between those three months, all of the country's 10 major carriers mishandled thousands of bags, according to the mos...
