TORONTO — An advocacy group that wants the CRTC to ban Fox News says the network’s “abusive content” extends beyond its divisive personalities such as recently fired host Tucker Carlson.Fox News should be banned from Canadian airwaves because it has “repeatedly and regularly” violated broadcasting standards with content that subjects many groups to hate, Egale Canada is arguing in its formal submission to Canada’s broadcasting regulator. The LGBTQ rights group is dismissing Fox’s argument that the application to remove its news network from Canadian cable TV packages is “moot” in the wake of prime-time host Tucker Carlson’s ousting in late April. Egale’s reply submission to the CRTC this week follows thousands of comments, including those from Fox News, that the commission received after seeking public input on the matter.Egale wrote an open letter to the regulator in early April, asking it to consult the public on the removal of Fox News from the list of non-Canad...France accuses Russia of faking websites to sow confusion and disinformation about Ukraine war

France’s government accused Russia on Tuesday of operating a long-running online manipulation campaign, including impersonating the websites of leading French media and the French Foreign Ministry, aimed at spreading confusion and false information about the war in Ukraine. The French agency responsible for fighting foreign digital interference, VIGINUM, said it has monitored the alleged operation since soon after Russia invaded its neighbor and that France was one of several European countries targeted. It said it traced the campaign to Russian individuals, companies and “state entities or entities affiliated to the Russian state.” Last month, the agency detected a mirror website mimicking the French Foreign Ministry’s and intervened with “protective and preventive measures,” VIGINUM said in a report published Tuesday.“France condemns these actions, which are unworthy of a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. TAYLOR, Texas (KXAN) -- Fireworks are a traditional part of marking Independence Day, but some people in one Williamson County community are concerned the loud bangs and flashing lights will once again impact birds nesting in a park. In 2022, a fireworks show hosted by the City of Taylor in Murphy Park caused nesting egrets to scatter when the fireworks went off. Many of the birds were killed in the chaos, as birds flew into power lines and baby birds were knocked out of their nests. AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Much of the morning into the early afternoon was spent under a mostly cloudy to overcast sky and haze. The haze comes from residual smoke coming from the seasonal agricultural burnings in northern Mexico and Central America. This has lead to some regional air sensors showing the air to be unhealthful for sensitive groups so if you are sensitive to the fine particles, like the dust, you should limit your outdoor activities. The other "H" word dominating today's forecast is the heat. The first Heat Advisory of the season is in effect until 8 p.m. Early-afternoon heat indices were in the upper 90s to a pair of 104° readings at both Flatonia and La Grange. Today's Heat AdvisoryThis Heat Advisory is valid based on yesterday's peak "feels like" of 112° at La Grange at 3:35. In fact, La Grange had a heat index greater than 100° from 11:35 a.m. to 8:15 p.m.Late-afternoon/evening showers and thunderstorms will again be possible.
