Broncos Mailbag: What to make of Denver’s work in the NFL draft and its crowded wide receiver room Denver Post Broncos writer Parker Gabriel posts his Broncos Mailbag periodically during the offseason. Click here to submit a question.Hey Parker, what do you think of our picks this year? I’m really loving that we landed Drew Sanders. I watched him play last year and the kid looks like he’ll be a force at ILB for us. What do you think?— Mark, ArvadaLet’s get it going this week with Mark’s question about the draft class overall. Denver, of course, entered the weekend with just five draft picks and ended up selecting five players — albeit while moving around the draft board quite a bit — in addition to trading for tight end Adam Trautman. In fact, the only player taken with a pick that Denver entered the draft with was Sanders at No. 67. The Broncos traded up to No. 63 for receiver Marvin Mims Jr., up to No. 83 for cornerback Riley Moss, selected JL Skinner at No. 183 with one of the picks from the Mims trade and then nabbed offensive lineman Alex Forsyth at No...

Solo skier killed in avalanche above Breckenridge identified as Littleton man A 31-year-old solo skier killed in a small avalanche above Breckenridge over the weekend likely triggered it when he was near the top of Bald Mountain preparing to descend a northeast-facing chute. The skier was Benjamin Ryan of Littleton, Summit County government spokesman David Rossi confirmed Tuesday morning.Ryan was caught and killed Saturday in an avalanche that broke from dry, wind-buffeted snow at an elevation of 13,200 feet and ran downward for 1,300 feet, leaving him buried, according to Brian Lazar, deputy director of the Colorado Avalanche Information Center. Although there were no witnesses, an investigation at the scene Sunday found Ryan set off the slide as he climbed near the top of the mountain, Lazar said. This fatality brought the number of deaths from avalanches in Colorado over the past year to 11 – one of the deadliest seasons since 2010. Only the winter of 2020-21 saw more avalanche fatalities, a dozen. The avalanche, once it started, quickly swept up more and mor...

Letters: What next for Fox News, Tucker Carlson? Same ol’, same ol’ What next for Fox News, Tucker Carlson?Re: “Will settlement alter conservative media,” April 23 news storyThe Dominion lawsuit against Fox News only cost Fox a little more than two weeks of annual profit. Fox has been making billions of dollars feeding “conservative” news to a gullible American public. Telling viewers bogus horror stories about the “left” and “big government” is a cash advertising cow they want to milk. The suit payment will only be a small cost to the Fox business model. Real patriots should reject the opinionated “conservative fantasy news” model.Jeff Baysinger, Lakewood,After settling the Dominion defamation lawsuit for $787.5 million, Fox News issued this statement: “This settlement reflects Fox’s continued commitment to the highest journalistic standards.” I guess they just can’t help themselves. Former officer Thao convicted for aiding George Floyd’s killing By Steve Karnowski | Associated PressMINNEAPOLIS — A former Minneapolis police officer who held back bystanders while his colleagues restrained a dying George Floyd has been convicted of aiding and abetting manslaughter.Tou Thao, who already had been convicted in federal court of violating Floyd’s civil rights, was the last of four former officers facing judgment in state court in Floyd’s killing. False sex abuse claims against priests — while rare — can hurt real victims and innocent clergy, experts say Angie Leventis Lourgos | Chicago TribuneCHICAGO — The sexual abuse supposedly occurred in 2003 at St. Agatha Catholic Church on Chicago’s West Side.Accuser “John Doe” claimed in court documents that as a young boy he had been sexually assaulted multiple times during the after-school SAFE program by Daniel McCormack, a defrocked Chicago priest who pleaded guilty in 2007 to sexually abusing five children while serving at St. Agatha’s parish.Memories of the abuse were repressed until 2020, according to court documents, when Doe filed a lawsuit against the former priest and the Chicago Archdiocese, seeking monetary damages.Except the entire story was later proven in court to be a fabrication, seemingly in an attempt to get a settlement. As the Catholic Church continues to grapple with a global decadeslong clerical sex abuse scandal, one ramification that’s emerged is fraudulent claims against priests and other members of the clergy. While data seem to indicate these kinds of false allegat...
