CapMetro gearing up for $120M northeast Austin facility

Editor’s Note: The video above shows KXAN Live's top headlines for Aug. 28, 2023.AUSTIN (KXAN) -- As CapMetro prepares for a new service facility in northeast Austin, the city's transit authority is poised to begin a community engagement process on the project this fall.CapMetro officials said in an Aug. 15 memo the new facility will encompass approximately 128,000 square feet and will help facilitate maintenance and operations work for CapMetro's Access and Pickup services. The upcoming facility will be the first built by CapMetro since 2008, per the memo.The 25-acre site at 10805 Cameron Road is being dubbed the North Base Demand Response Facility Project, with an estimated cost of $120 million. On September 6, the Schenectady County Public Health Services, the New Choices Recovery Center, and the Schenectady Police Department will host a free naloxone training and information session for community members. The event officially kicks off at noon, when participants can begin strolling around Downtown Schenectady. There is one wing sample per restaurant. ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Canadian man has been arrested for allegedly traveling to Albany in an attempt to meet a child for sex, according to the United States Attorney's Office. Alexander MacFayden, 37, faces up to life in prison if convicted. Get the latest news, weather, sports and entertainment delivered right to your inbox! The investigation conducted by the FBI, state police and local police departments determined that MacFayden allegedly engaged in a series of online conversations earlier this year with a person whom he believed would allow him to have sexual contact with a 10-year-old relative. On August 25, MacFayden drove from the Toronto area to Albany to reportedly meet the child, and was arrested in Colonie that night. MacFayden later admitted to police that he drove to Albany with the intent of engaging in sexual contact with the minor. ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - A St. Louis County police officer shot a man following an attempted carjacking late Monday morning at a north county strip mall.The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. in the 6800 block of Parker Road, just off Lewis and Clark Boulevard.Police claim the suspect approached a woman in the parking lot and attempted to steal her car. He was able to take her keys, but she was able to stop him from stealing the vehicle, and the suspect walked away from the woman.Police later saw the suspect near the intersection of Parker Road and Partridge Run. When police approached, the suspect fired shots at an officer, striking his police cruiser. The officer returned fire, striking the suspect with a bullet.While waiting for an ambulance, the officer gave the suspect medical aid. The suspect has been taken to the hospital for treatment. ST. LOUIS - A St. Louis man appeared at the Carnahan Courthouse on Monday and admitted to sexually assaulting two girls he met online. According to the St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office, Adrian Neal, 20, pleaded guilty to statutory rape, two counts of statutory sodomy, kidnapping, and child molestation. He entered the guilty plea just days before the scheduled start of his trial.Neal had been charged last year. Prosecutors said Neal met the victims, both 12 years old, on the social media app SnapChat in August 2021.
