First lawsuit filed on behalf of female Northwestern University athlete as hazing scandal widens CHICAGO (AP) — The hazing scandal at Northwestern University has widened to include a volleyball player who on Monday became the first female athlete to sue the university over allegations she was retaliated against by the coach for reporting her mistreatment.The player, identified in the lawsuit as Jane Doe, says she was physically harmed to the point of requiring medical attention during a hazing incident in early 2021.According to the lawsuit, Jane Doe contracted COVID-19 in February of that year, despite following the team’s COVID guidelines. Despite this, she says, Northwestern volleyball coach Shane Davis and an assistant coach informed her she would need to undergo a “punishment” for violating the guidelines. At least 17 bodies have been recovered after a migrant boat capsized off Senegal’s capital city DAKAR, Senegal (AP) — At least 17 people were found dead after a boat capsized in Senegal’s capital, said local officials on Monday. The bodies were discovered by the navy early in the morning and are believed to be migrants because of the type of boat they were in, said Ndeye Top Gueye, the mayor of the Ouakam neighborhood of Dakar where the bodies were found.“Because of the size and shape, we know that it’s a pirogue (a long wooden boat),” she said. While this is the first time bodies have washed up in the neighborhood migrant deaths at sea are becoming more common in Senegal, she said. “It’s not the first time, it’s the umpteenth time. The government needs to take countermeasures.” It was unclear where the people were coming from, what nationalities they were or where they were going. Woman found dead after 'apparent bear encounter' near Yellowstone (The Hill) -- A woman was found dead after an “apparent bear encounter” near Yellowstone National Park in Montana on Saturday.The Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) said investigators confirmed grizzly bear tracks at the scene and said the investigation was ongoing. The woman was discovered on the Buttermilk Trail, an area about 8 miles west of West Yellowstone. U.S. Forest rangers of the Custer Gallatin National Forest issued an emergency closure of the area “for human safety.” “Bears can be found throughout Montana. In recent years, grizzly bear populations have expanded. More than a third of Americans choose to have a 'sleep divorce' AUSTIN (KXAN) — Whether your partner is prone to snoring or you need to wake up at 3 a.m. the next day, couples have plenty of reasons for sleeping in different beds at home.The nontraditional sleeping arrangement is described by experts as a "sleep divorce" and is more common than you might think.A new survey from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine shows 35% of respondents sleep in a different room from their partner consistently (15%) or occasionally (20%)."The question really is why do you have to sleep separately, what's going on with your bed partner," said American Academy of Sleep Medicine board member Dr. Fariha Abbasi-Feinberg. "I think it's a negative if you are ignoring any underlying sleep issues that can be fixed and resolved and evaluated."The survey talked to 2,005 people across the country and found men are likelier to say they move to a different room than women. St. Paul motorcyclist killed in I-94 crash in Minneapolis A St. Paul woman riding on the back of a Harley-Davidson was killed and the driver was injured after the motorcycle crashed into the back of a car on Interstate 94 in Minneapolis late Saturday, the State Patrol said.The crash happened on eastbound I-94 near Franklin Avenue just after 10:30 p.m., sending Jerry Lynn Phillips, 53, and 40-year-old Ann Elizabeth Warner to the pavement, the State Patrol said. They were not wearing helmets.Warner died at the scene, the State Patrol said, while Phillips, also of St. Paul, was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. A spokesperson from Amtrak says they've sought out several different solutions with CN and the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) due to restrictions that have caused significant delays. Get the latest news, weather, sports and entertainment delivered right to your inbox! Beginning on Monday, the Adirondack will only operate between New York City and Saratoga Springs. Amtrak and NYSDOT plan to return to scheduled service in mid-September when CN is expected to lift heat restrictions, however, it is possible the heat restrictions could be lifted before then.
